Trip Overview

Everest Base Camp Trek “Truly an experience not to be missed”

The Everest Base Camp Trek is amongst the most popular treks in Nepal. To the Nepalese, it is simply called Sagarmatha, the “sky head”. To the Tibetans it is Chomolungma, the mother goddess of the earth. To the rest of the world, it is the most renowned mountain of all. The Everest Base Camp Trek takes trekkers through a variety of different environments, with climbs and descents, along the Dudh Koshi (Milky) river, through wonderful gorges, hills and valleys, and forests of Rhododendron trees; all the while walking in the shadow of mountains that are the highest in the world -peaks above 8000m. The trek to Everest Base Camp is among the most remarkable and striking treks in the Himalaya.

Every year thousands flock to the foothills of the Himalayas to get a glance of the majesty of the world’s tallest peak. After a short flight from Kathmandu to Lukla in a Twin-Otter plane to the mountain airstrip, our trek starts with an initial climb to Namche Bazaar, which is the central town of the Khumbu region of Nepal. The trekking route ascends down the Khumbu valley on well-formed trails that provide foot access between villages for the Sherpa people. From here we follow in the footsteps of famous mountaineers for the walk into Everest Base Camp. Passing across scenic views every day, trekkers can see various villages, monasteries, flora and fauna and stand in awe of the mountains on each day of the trek. We are now in Buddhist Sherpa country where you will see colorful prayer flags, Mani walls and monasteries along the way. Trekking in Nepal remains as one of the great adventures on the planet, and the number of people visiting Nepal for treks is not going to decline anytime soon. We have planned our Everest Base Camp Trek with ample of time for the necessary acclimatization for our clients. Now our trekking route takes you to the beautiful Sherpa villages in the Khumbu and to Namche Bazaar the colorful and vibrant heart of Sherpa country. You also get the opportunity to visit the major monasteries of the Khumbu region. While Kala-Patthar remains an important view point to see the majesty of Everest, the trek continues on and trekkers are expected to make it to the base camp further on. And the highlights of our trek are the walk up to Kala-Patthar for the panoramic views including Mt Everest and also the hike from Gorakshep along the Khumbu glacier to Everest Base Camp. With this, every day on this trek has the ability to overwhelm you with new and fascinating experiences.

Despite its recognition, it is not like other easier trekking routes in Nepal, as the altitude and the long difficult climbs, make the journey hard, while still being meaningful and worthwhile for experienced trekkers. Generally, the best preferred seasons for this trek are from March to May and September to December. Have a reasonable level of fitness for trekking into the vicinity of Everest and make sure you have mental endurance to continue trekking for an average of 5-6 hours on rough terrains. Be a part of Himalayan Trekking Alliance now to join on this adventure with a professional team throughout the trek.

My experience with Hari at the Himalayan Trekking Alliance went above and beyond expectations. I went on the Everest Base Camp trek with a guide, but left with a friend. At every point on the trek, Hari was prepared and attentive to my needs. He knew the answers to every question, including the names of the majestic peaks and the altitude of each. He taught about the culture, toured local spots, and taught as much of the language as we could remember. We worked hard trekking during the day, but everything else about the trip was a relaxing vacation! Be prepared for a magical experience, with pleasant surprises at every turn. It is clear he is adored universally by his interactions with locals and other guides. I would not go on another trek with anyone other than Hari! Best guide on the trail!
