Best Short Hikes Around Kathmandu Valley

If you have an or two extra days in Kathmandu, can hike therearound. You can use your extra day hiking around the city refreshing yourself/selves in the fresh air and sound nature.

Next, whether you are a hiker or adventurer, who admires exploring the nature, you have plenty of options. Most of the hikes around the city complete within a day and a couple of the days. So, those who have less time also can afford these hikes.

This article explains several hiking options around Kathmandu. You can book them according your time, energy and interest.

Shivapuri Peak Hiking

Day:1

Walking Hour: 6-7 hours

Altitude: 2,732 m (8,963 ft)

Major Attractions: Magnificent views of the Himalayas, wildlife, streams, flora and fauna, Monastery

This one-day hike leads you to Shivapuri Peak via national park. You can enjoy the flora fauna, wildlife on the way. Well decorated steps are there to make the journey easier.

On the way, you can visit Nagi Gompa, the monastery and Budhanilkantha, the statue of Lord Bishnu (Narayana) as well. Moreover, you will have the astonishing views of the peaks including Langtang Himal, Gaurishankar Himal, Dorje Lakpa Himal, and many more.

As you are hiking in the National Park, you will not find any teahouses on the way.So you should bring packed lunch from your hotel.

Chisapani Nagarkot Hiking

Day:3

Walking Hour: 5-6 hours a day

Altitude:  2,215m (7,267 ft)

Major Attractions:  Magnificent views of the snow-clad peaks. Transverse via sub-tropical forest in Shivapuri National Park. Local lifestyle.

The trek begins from Sundarijal, Kathmandu. It passes waterfalls, and continues to Chisapani village, a trivial settlement of Brahmins, Gurungs and Sherpas. Next day the trial leads to Nagarkot viewing the magnificent views of the peaks including Manaslu Himal, Annapurna Ranges, Ganesh Himal Jugal Himal Langtang Himal and Lakpa Dorje Himal, Gaurishankar Himal.

Viewing the sunrise in the next morning, you hike to Changunarayan and drive to Kathmandu. You can directly drive to Kathmandu from Nagarkot as well.

Champadevi Hike

Day:1

Hiking Hour: 4-6 hours

Height: 2,249m (7, 378ft)

Major Attractions: Stupas, monasteries, Astonishing views of the Himalayas, greeneries

Champadevi hike, another popular hike around Kathmandu is located in Makawanpur district. You can get the fresh and clean air.

Not only this, you can have amazing views of the snow-covered peaks including Jugal Himal, Langtang Himal, and other close massifs.

Next, you can explore the Buddhist culture and traditions visiting some stupas and monasteries in this hike.

Phulchoki Hiking

Day:1

Hiking Hour: 6-7 hours

Highest Altitude: 2,782m (9127 ft)

Major Attractions: View of Himalayas, Botanical garden, Many birds and wildlife

Phulchowki, the highest hill near Kathmandu is positioned in the southern part of Kathmandu. You should reach Godawari to start your hike.

Marching via sub-tropical dense jungle, you can observe different sorts of trees including rhododendrons and oaks. Not only this, you will enjoy seeing several species of birds and wildlife. On the way you shall have the astonishing view of Annapurna and Gaurishankar range.
